چکیده

Vriesea incurvata is a native bromeliad from Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest and commercialized as an ornamental pot plant. The morphological characteristics of its floral scape may also indicate it new product to use cut flower. However, postharvest behavior was unknown. This study conducted determine vase life by applying distilled water (control) solutions containing sucrose (50 g L-1), salicylic acid ?M), citric L-1) for periods 8 24 h. Floral scapes maintained in showed greater than 16 days when compared the control (distilled water). with evidenced best behaviors related maintenance physiological aesthetic features during scapes. It concluded that sucrose, acid, applied h extend V. Sucrose promotes color, brightness, turgidity; improves balance, reduces relative fresh weight losses throughout life, extending their longevity up days.

Foraging behaviour of the Scale-throated Hermit Phaethornis eurynome Lesson, 1832 (Aves, Trochilidae) in Vriesea incurvata Gaudich (Bromeliaceae).

In this study we tested for density-dependent relationships between visitation rates of the Scale-throated Hermit (Phaethornis eurynome) and the plant density and flower number of the bromeliad Vriesea incurvata, by comparing plots with varying densities of this bromeliad. Eight 100 m2 plots were established at least 200 m from each other; four plots contained 10-15 individuals of V. incurvata ...

Effect of Salicylic Acid, Citric Acid and Ascorbic Acid on Post-harvest Quality and Vase Life of Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) Cut Flowers

Cut gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) flowers are sensitive to microbial contamination and have short vase life. The effect of salicylic acid, citric acid and ascorbic acid (50, 100 and 200 mg l-1) was evaluated on vase life of gerbera flowers. Changes in vase life, water absorption, and bacterial population in stem and vase solution, also biochemical characteristics such as protein concentration, li...

The Effect of Preservative Solutions Containing Benzyl Adenine and Salicylic Acid on the Vase Life of Lily cv. Fangio

The current study was conducted to investigate the effect of 24-hour short treatment of benzyl adenine (zero and 0.1 mM) and salicylic acid (zero, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 and 1.0 mM) on the vase life of Lily cv. Fangio. The measured traits were leaf fresh weight (on zero, first, third, and seventh days), the contents of anthocyanin, flavonoids, carotenoids, chlorophylls a, b and total (on zero and sev...

Study on Effects of Ascorbic Acid and Citric Acid on Vase Life of Cut Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) ‘Mariachi Blue’

The postharvest life of cut Eustoma grandiflorum flowers is limited in open flowers. Therefore a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with ascorbic acid (AsA) at 4 levels (0, 100, 200, 300mg L-1) and citric acid (CA) at 3 levels (0, 100, 200 mg L-1) with 3 replications and 3 samples for each replications, was conducted for this purpose. Results indicated that a significa...

salicylic and citric acid treatments improve the vase life of cut chrysanthemum flowers

chrysanthemum (dendranthema grandiflorum (ramat.) kitamura cv. pattriot) is one of the most important and marketable cut flowers in the world. however, a relatively limited vase life reduces its marketability. the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of salicylic acid (sa) and citric acid (ca) in extending the vase life of chrysanthemum flowers. therefore, a factorial experiment based...
